Wiki Web
A Wiki Web, or wiki, is an editable website, where the edits take place in your browser window. To learn more about the concept, who invented it etc, here is a link to original wiki: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki
The pages are arranged, or indexed, in a slightly different way to most websites. In some ways it is a more logical way, which is made possible by virtue of its dynamic content. Most pages will have links to other pages, making it possible to navigate "forwards" (usually towards the more specific) and each page also has a method to navigate "backwards" (usually towards the more general) in this case using the Backsearch link at the bottom of each page. The backsearch simply looks for pages which make reference to the current one. In addition there are usually features like a sitemap and search facility, and this wiki is no exception.
The software which runs a wiki is known as a wiki engine. The wiki engine running this site was written by one of the members of DMOU using the Python language (http://www.python.org).
The editing rights of this wiki are limited to the membership, but very often wikis are completely unrestricted.
