Jeremy Broun
Jeremy Broun established a small furniture design workshop in 1973 and was amongst a handful of pioneers of the British Studio Furniture Movement, sharing the exhibition platform for three decades with Alan Peters, John Coleman, Rupert Williamson, David Colwell, John Makepeace, Ashley Cartwright and David Field. In 1988, out of frustration that public ignorance still lingered about the wealth of this craft he sold a house and invested in filming equipment to make documentary craft videos under the label "Thinking Hand Video". He is also a seasoned author and has won numerous awards, including a Churchill Travel Scholarship to Sweden, Finland and Italy, The Worshipful Company Of Furniture Makers "Ambrose Heal Award". In 2005 he was guest speaker alongside John Makepeace and Andrew Varah at the Irish Create event celebrating their leading designer makers and in 2006 was voted "Professional woodworker of the year 2005" by The Woodworker magazine for an innovative touchscreen jukebox. He is a Fellow of the Society Of Designer Craftsmen and a Member of the Crafts Council Index of Selected makers.
Jeremy now publishes his own books on various aspects of woodworking and design and creates a handful of innovative furniture pieces each year, either speculatively (for selected exhibitions) or to commission. He currently acts as a "mentor" to Touchwood Enterprises Ltd of Bristol helping translate concept designs into efficiently manufactured items and he has worked for Mark Wilkinson Kitchens acting as a creative problem solver liaising between robot production and handskill.
